Better understanding of environmental health issues through proteomics and systems toxicology approaches.
I serve as Associate Director of Wayne State University's Proteomics Facility Core. My research utilizes a holistic systems biology approach and human tissue models to study the effects of environmental contaminants on health and disease. I lead a multi-disciplinary team of researchers from Wayne State and Henry Ford Health System called DVERSE (Detroit Vision for Environmental Research through Science and Engagement) which incorporates a community participatory model of scientific research. Specific areas of research include determining the effects of petroleum coke on human health; personal air monitoring in Detroit teens with asthma; and investigating the role of mercury in autoimmune disease.
